The Speech and Language Therapy course at Canterbury Christ Church University is a full-time postgraduate course designed to give students the skills and knowledge to become a Speech and Language Therapist. This involves helping children and adults manage or overcome communication and swallowing problems, enabling them to interact and eat and drink safely.Course Content: The course combines theoretical knowledge and practical experience in a variety of Health and Education settings. Modules cover linguistics, psychology, and biomedical sciences. They also cover management and intervention strategies for a range of speech, language, communication, and swallowing difficulties. There are also two research modules that culminate in a research project. Students have the opportunity to put theory into practice, working closely with clients and professional Speech and Language Therapists on placements covering three areas: adult mental and physical health, children's services within Education, and children's services within Health. Key Modules: The course involves studying Anatomy and Physiology for Speech and Language Therapists; Clinical Linguistics for Speech and Language Therapists; Speech and Language Therapy Practice; Developing Reflective Skills; Speech and Language Therapy Placement A/B/C; Research in Health and Social Care; Paediatric Dysphagia; and Management of Clients with Learning and Developmental Disorders.Accreditations: The course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).Future Careers: Successful completion of the course leads to eligibility for registration as a Speech and Language Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and professional membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
