The Automotive Engineering BEng (Hons) offered by the University of Hertfordshire allows students to apply engineering principles to the design, operation, and manufacture of vehicles such as cars, buses, and motorcycles. The course is designed to produce graduates with the skills to work as designers, technologists, engineers, or managers in the Automotive industry.Course Content: The course places a strong emphasis on practical learning, both in the workshops and labs and while on placement. Students will learn to apply mathematical and physical science principles to the many different areas of automotive technology, which include computer simulation, design, materials, power units, and transmission. In addition, the course incorporates project-based learning where students have the opportunity to work on real-life problems.Key Modules: Key modules include Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Automotive Materials, Automotive Ground Vehicle Systems, Automotive Power Unit and Transmission, Mechanical Systems Analysis, Automotive Dynamics, Instrumentation and Control Systems, Automotive Design and Manufacture, and a Team Project.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). This allows partial exemption towards the Engineering Council’s educational requirements to becoming a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer. Future Careers: Graduates of this program typically find work as automotive designers, chassis engineers, vehicle systems engineers, noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) engineers, or in motor sport as a race engineer, or pit crew manager. Some also choose to continue further studies, become a technical specialist, or move into roles within project management, sales, or technical consulting.
