The BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology course offered by the University of Hertfordshire provides a comprehensive grounding in all aspects of motorsport engineering including aerodynamics, race car design, drivetrain and transmission system among others. It provides a significant emphasis on practical sessions and projects ensuring that students not only gain a theoretical understanding of motorsport technology but can also apply them in real-life situations. Course Content: Rigorous hands-on modules like mechanics, thermofluids, and broader engineering experiences are facilitated through practical sessions. The course is designed to give students a broad understanding of the subjects related to motor sports technology. Key Modules: Some of the core modules across the three years of study include, 'Engineering Principles' where students learn the fundamental principles of engineering. 'Vehicle Design & Performance' where students dive deep into the nuances of vehicle performance and design techniques. 'Race Car Aerodynamics' focussing on the concepts related with downforce, drag and more. 'Motorsport Electronics' offers extensive knowledge in the relevant automated systems and controls. 'Applied Mechanical Design' provides an in-depth understanding of drivetrain and transmission system engineering. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council as partially fulfilling the educational requirement for Engineering Technician status. It is also accredited by the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) and the Institution of Plant Engineers (IPlantE). Future Careers: Graduates from this course have gone on to work as motorsport engineers in prestigious organisations such as Aston Martin Racing, Red Bull Racing, Mercedes AMG Petronas, Lotus F1, McLaren Automotive and Williams F1. A number of our graduates have also worked in roles within high-performance engineering companies like Ricardo. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page here.
