BMid (Hons) Midwifery

Our BMid (Hons) Midwifery course at Staffordshire University provides a holistic understanding of pre, intra, and postnatal care to mothers and babies. This program prepares midwifery students to be effective agents of change, advocates, leaders, researchers, and teachers in diverse healthcare settings including hospitals, homes, communities, and midwiferyled units. Course Content: The Midwifery degree is designed to deliver a mix of learning activities including lectures, selfdirected study, seminars, workshops, practical sessions, tutorials, and online learning. This also involves practical experience in simulated learning environments and work placement experiences. The program instils competence in theory and practice, bridging the gap between academia and realworld healthcare services.Key Modules: The course provides a strong focus on physiological and holistic aspects of maternity care. Essential modules include Understanding Normal Childbearing, Maternal & Foetal Wellbeing, Holistic Midwifery Care in Complicated Childbearing, Engaging with Service Users & Professionals in Midwifery, Leadership, Innovation & Change in Practice, and the Midwifery Research project.Accreditations: The BMid (Hons) Midwifery degree receives its accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). This makes sure graduates are equipped with knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to practise as a registered midwife.Future Careers: Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are equipped to become professional, compassionate registered midwives, with opportunities to work in a variety of healthcare settings. They may work in the community, maternity units in hospitals, or independent or private practices. There is scope for further career advancement into areas like specialist clinical roles, education, research, or management.
