BA (Hons) Sound Design

Staffordshire University's threeyear fulltime Sound Design BA(Hons) degree is an industryfocused, highly practical course allowing students to develop the essential creative and technical skills needed to be successful sound designers. The course will train students in various aspects of sound design, from location recording, studio recording to multichannel mixing for different mediums, including games, film/TV, and VR/AR/MR. Students will be working with awardwinning staff and industrystandard software.Course Content: Throughout the course, there is a blend of theoretical and practical learning. The course begins by building knowledge about the fundamental principles of sound and acoustics, audio signal path, microphones, and recording techniques. In the subsequent years, students will have the opportunity to work on larger projects to develop specialisms, there may be opportunities for work experience or placements, and they will take a final industry project in their third year.Key Modules: Key modules include Recording Techniques, Acoustics and Psychoacoustics, Audio Postproduction, Adaptive Audio (for games and interactive apps), and Professional Practice. As students progress, they will be able to choose optional modules to specialize in certain areas.Accreditations: It's worth noting that this is a JAMES Accredited Course – Joint Audio Media Education Support, which is an organization that bridges the gap between the industry and education in the areas of music, recording, and media production.Future Careers: Graduates of this course will be wellequipped for a career in various sound design roles within the audio industry, including Sound Designer for Film/TV and Games, Live Sound Engineering, Studio Sound Engineering, Audio Postproduction Engineer, Foley Artist, and more. This course also provides a good foundation to work in wider roles within the audio and music industry or further study if the student so chooses.
