Course Overview

The PhD Mathematics Education at Loughborough University is a postgraduate programme designed for postgraduate students passionate about understanding society. Based in Loughborough, England, this programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, with a 3-year full-time and part-time structure. The Department of Mathematics Education is one of the largest mathematics education research groups in the UK. Our research focuses on three areas: Mathematical Cognition, Education Design and Evaluation, and Higher Education Pedagogy. We explore the fundamental processes involved in learning mathematics, as well as the design and evaluation of innovative pedagogy. In the Research Excellence Framework 2021, 83% of our research activity was judged to be ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally-excellent’. International tuition fees are £5,006 per year, home/UK fees are £22,360 per year, and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 is required for admission.
