The Biochemistry BSc at the University of Sheffield is a three-year course that provides students with a deep understanding of the molecular mechanisms of biology. The course teaches you how biological processes work at a molecular level, how they facilitate life, and how knowledge of these systems adds to our understanding of biology, medicine and the life sciences. The program includes a mixture of lectures, practical lab sessions and tutorials. In the final year, you'll carry out a research project in one of the areas of biochemistry.Course Content: The course covers a range of subjects including the structure and function of biological molecules, enzyme action, molecular genetics, bioenergetics, molecular aspects of cell communication, molecular basis of disease and drug action and advanced research techniques.Key Modules: Fundamental principles of biochemistry, Techniques in Biochemistry, Gene Expression and Cell Communication, Bioinformatics, RNA and Protein Biogenesis, Human Genetics and Genomics, Molecular Pharmacology, and Advanced Biochemistry Research Projects.Accreditations: The Course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting, in part, the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates are well prepared for a range of careers including research scientist, clinical biochemist, forensic scientist, biotechnologist, patent attorney, pharmaceutical sales representative, science teacher, among others. Some also choose to progress onto pertinent further study. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
