The Mechanical and Acoustical Engineering degree from the University of Southampton is a unique integrated master's program that offers a blend of core mechanical engineering principles and an in-depth focus on acoustics. Through this four-year MEng course, students get the opportunity to learn about noise control, sound, and vibration in diverse industries, ranging from automotive to architectural.Course Content: The course begins with a solid foundation of engineering principles and mathematics in the first year. From the second year onwards, the focus shifts to more specialized areas with a core emphasis on vibrations and sound, fluid dynamics, stress analysis and design principles, leading to advanced modules in Acoustical Engineering. Through a group design project and an individual research project, the students get hands-on experience in solving real-world problems.Key Modules: Year 1 and 2 covers modules in Mathematics for Engineering and Sciences, Thermo-fluid Dynamics, Mechanics, Design and Computing, Sound and Vibration. Year 3 adds Noise Control, Underwater Acoustics, Vibration and Control.
