The MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics / Aerodynamics course from the University of Southampton is a four-year program designed to equip students with a deep understanding of aerodynamics, and the forces and physical aspects involved in the design of aeronautic and astronautic structures. It includes hands-on experience, project work with the UK's leading aerodynamics research centers and industries, and access to the university’s state-of-the-art facilities. Course Content: The program covers contemporary topics in aeronautical engineering, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), wind tunnel testing, and aerodynamic design. Students can work on individual and group design projects, while trips to local industry and sites like the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory provide real-world context. There is an option for MEng students to spend a semester abroad or in industry to gain direct practical experience.Key Modules: Some of the core modules include Thermodynamics and Propulsion; Aerospace Computing; and Aerodynamics Design. Optional modules allow students to delve deeper into topics of interest such as Spacecraft Propulsion, Advanced Computational Methods for Aeronautics, and Aerothermal Processes.Accreditations: This degree is accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for Engineering Council registration as a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: Graduates from this program have gone on to be successful in roles such as Aerodynamics Specialist, Aerospace Engineer, and Propulsion Engineer in companies like BAE Systems, Airbus, and Rolls-Royce.
