The BSc Computer Science with Industrial Year course at the University of Reading offers students a comprehensive education in computing, whilst also offering real-world practical experience through an industrial placement year. This course helps to develop a strong foundation in computer science principles and contemporary computing technologies.Course Content: Throughout the course, students will explore a range of topics such as software engineering, database systems, network systems and security along with optional modules allowing specialisation in areas of interest. The course is structured in a way to develop a deep understanding of how computer systems work and how to create applications to solve complex problems. Students also have the unique opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge into practice with an integrated year-long industrial placement. Key Modules: The course modules are divided across the years of study. In the first year, modules include Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Introduction to Intelligent Systems. The second year includes Systems Programming, Design & Analysis of Database Systems, and Software Engineering. The industrial placement takes place in the third year, followed by the fourth and final year where students undertake a computing project and choose optional modules.Accreditations: This course is accredited by British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.Future Careers: Graduates of this programme are highly sought after and move into a variety of careers such as software engineering, web and software development, network design and management, database administration, etc. Many of our students choose to enter professions directly related to their course study while others use the range of skills and experiences gained to enter other career paths.
