BA History

The History BA course at Brunel University aims to impart in-depth historical knowledge and understanding of complex historical events and ideas. It provides a comprehensive study of history from ancient to contemporary times from all corners of the world. The course also strives to develop students' critical thinking, research, and communication skills, alongside their ability to argue a point of view based on evidence.Course Content: The first year provides a solid foundation across a broad range of periods and places, building your historical knowledge and understanding. Over your second and third years, you'll specialise in the areas that interest you the most. Through it, you acquire an understanding of different approaches to history and the range of methods used in its pursuit. You’ll develop your ability to analyse and to argue effectively, gain experience in expressing your ideas in coursework essays and seminars, and in a final year dissertation on a topic of your choosing.Key Modules: Depending on the chosen pathway and year of study, students might study modules such as The Making of Britain, American History from Settlement to Superpower, The Modern World, Understanding the Past, Themes in Early Modern History, The World since 1945: Themes and Perspectives, The Age of Extremes: Themes in Twentieth Century World History, and Independent Dissertation, among others.
