The Science Communication course at the University of the West of England is designed for students who want to inspire the public, media, policy makers, and other interest groups to engage critically with the topics of science. Students will learn how to communicate scientific research effectively to multiple audiences, using a variety of methods - from print to podcasts, and social media to public talks. Course Content: The course aims to equip students with an understanding of the role of science in society, the nature and implications of scientific progress, and the implications for public engagement. The course includes a core programme of fortnightly seminars, supplemented by a series of practical workshops. Students will engage in a major project of their own design, associated with the Theory module. Key Modules: Core modules include Theory, Designed Communication, Performance, Journalism, Digital Media, Writing Science, Science on Air and On Screen, and Major Project. Additionally, optional modules can be selected in either term, from options such as Science in Public Spaces, Policy, Museums, and Health Communication.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purposes of meeting the educational requirement for the Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Upon completion of this course, students have been successful in finding roles as Science Communicators, Writers, Medical Writers, Health Promoters, Science Teachers, Academics, and Researchers.
