The BSc (Hons) Biology (Molecular and Cellular) at the University of Huddersfield is an intensive undergraduate program that provides a comprehensive understanding of life at the molecular level. This course is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge of the structure and function of biological macromolecules and cellular systems, as well as the techniques used to study them.Course Content: The program spans over three years. In the first year, students gain a solid grounding in biological systems and processes, including genetics, evolution, biochemistry (proteins), cell biology, and physical chemistry. In year two, topics covered include molecular biology, gene regulation, diseases at the molecular level, microbiology, and bioinformatics. The final year involves studying advanced molecular biology and choosing optional modules in subjects such as clinical microbiology, virology, advanced molecular biology, and cancer biology.Key Modules: Some of the key modules in the course include Biochemical Techniques, Cellular Pathology, Advanced Topics in Molecular Biology, Metabolic Biochemistry, Microscopy and Imaging, as well as a final year project which enables you to conduct specialized research under the guidance of our experienced academic staff.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Successful completion of this course opens up a wide range of career paths. Graduates can pursue roles related to laboratory research in various sectors, including pharmaceutical, biomedical, microbiology, biotechnology, or further education through graduate studies. Graduates can also venture into diverse areas like scientific publishing, intellectual property rights, and science communication. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
