The BEng (Hons) Computer Systems programme at Heriot-Watt University is a full-time undergraduate course designed to equip students with comprehensive knowledge in computer systems. Students have the opportunity to gain practical understanding of a wide range of systems and acquire core competencies in electronics, software engineering, networking, and systems design.Course Content: The degree entails the study of computer system design, computer networks, database systems, system software, and security. Students learn through lectures, lab work, and project-based assessments. The programme also provides hands-on experience by taking on projects that possess real-world applications. Additionally, students have an option to participate in industrial placements to gain valuable industry experience.Key Modules: Some of the most important modules students will study include Digital Systems and Microprocessors, Programming and Algorithmic Thinking, Computer Systems and Professional Issues, Computer Networking, Operating Systems and Concurrency, and Electronic System Applications among others. During the final year, students undertake a major project where they apply and integrate all the learning from the course to solve real-world problems.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the British Computer Society and fully meets the educational requirement for Chartered IT Professional (CITP) registration.Future Careers: Graduates from the BEng (Hons) Computer Systems programme have a high employability rate and are equipped to take up roles in general software engineering, computer system design and manufacturing, and network design and installation. Many graduates also work in specialized areas such as robotics engineering, medical electronics, network management, and mobile communications. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
